I got four books in this month. 4 real books that I was able to read. Not just manga to get through a slump but real novels. One I was not even sure why I read it if I am being honest but we'll talk about it when we get to it.
The Selection
by Kiera Cass
Book 1 of 5
Page Count: 336
Published: April 24, 2013
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Synopsis:
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
My Opinion:
America Singer doesn't want to go to into the selection. In fact she just wants to marry the 6 she has fallen in love with and live happily ever after. Her mother insist that she goes into the selection. The 6 she has fallen in love with has also told her that she at least go into the lottery for the selection. She doesn't believe that a five could win the heart of the prince besides her love life is already decided. She's ready to get married and be a 6. What she does not anticipate is actually being selected to be part of the selection.
She's now in the running for the prince's heart. She seems like such a rough character during the book that it sometimes feels hard to relate to her or even to enjoy her. However, there is something about her that even with those things makes her a character that you can love. Even with all her faults. Maxon just makes me melt. His attempts at love for the first time. They are adorable. You can't even get angry with him for some of the mistakes he makes. Watching him try to accommodate America with her wants and needs are perfect.
The way he got his first date with any of the girls was cute. Making a bet with America that her sister would cry if she ate the tart that America was eating. If she won she would get to wear pants and if he won he would get a date with her. I also love all of America's ladies. They are so much fun and amazing to grow with. They are so funny that at times after something bad has happened you can't help but laugh at something they do or say.
This is my 4th or 5th maybe even my 7th read through of these books. I can never get enough of America and Maxon.
The Elite
by Kiera Cass
Book 2 of 5
Page Count: 336
Published: April 23, 2013
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Synopsis:
The Selection began with thirty-five girls. Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?
America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.
My Opinion:
We have been narrowed down to six beautiful girls who are fighting for the heart of Maxon. And this is the book where things start getting even more annoying with our main character and while I love her and she's real because when you have feelings for two different people you are torn between them. Especially if one of them is your first love. You know you are meant to be with your second love.
This is one of those moments. America is torn between Aspen who she learned how to have a love with that was outside of her family. However, Maxon showed her a love that was without boundaries. This love came with the risk of the rebels. This love came with the risk of a soon to be father in law who was willing to beat his son into submission. Aspen was safe. Aspen was familiar. But was Aspen who she really wanted or was it Maxon. She bounces back and forth the whole book and yes it is frustrating but it's at least real.
Ice Planet Barbarians
by Ruby Dixon
Book 1 of ...
Kindle Unlimited
Page: 188
Published: April 3, 2015
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Synopsis:
You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women - including me - on an ice planet.
And the only native inhabitant I've met? He's big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me...
My Opinion:
I am about to be really honest here. I am not one for sci-fi. I mean I don't mind reading it but this was a first for Romance Sci-fi. I really don't know what I expected out of it. The main character was kidnapped from Earth. Something happened with the space ship that they were in and so the kidnappers that were god only knows what dropped off their cargo of humans all female on this strange ice planet. An ice plant that requires you to do something in order to survive this world. A planet full of a dying race. This was just something I wasn't even sure I was going to like. I saw it on BookTok and decided with how many times I saw it that I would give it a try. I don't think I will read the rest of these. They may not be my cup of tea but they could be someone else's cup of tea.
Ruthless Monarch: A Billionaire Enemies-to-Lovers Romance
by Ava Harrison
Kindle Unlimited
Page: ...
Published: April 4, 2021
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Synopsis:
From USA Today bestselling author Ava Harrison comes a gritty, twisted standalone romance.
Matteo Amante.
Dangerous. Deadly. And most of all, devastating.
He’s the king of the city.
Running the mafia and ruling the East Coast.
He’s at war with his cousin, and I am the casualty.
There is nothing Matteo won’t do to win.
He’ll burn everything down to the ground, my hopes and dreams included.
He’s no hero.
He’s the handsome devil who will probably kill me in the end.
Falling in love with the enemy can destroy me, especially when he is my husband . . .
My Opinion:
This is a dark romance that involves the mafia. I would say that there are probably triggering themes. This book had my attention because this was around the time that I was heavily into watching 365 Days and that had me drawn into the mafia theme.
This book was one that I was just driven insane with because the main character is taken by Matteo and married in a basically hush hush wedding to keep her from marrying his cousin. He only wants to marry her to keep his cousin from marrying her but he can promise her that he will take care of her. He tells her that his cousin may not be kind enough to do the same.
