Tempers, Tantrums, & Electronics Oh My

So we are just going to jump right into this. We have several game systems in my house. I mean several. Two of which are actually in my bedroom and my children. My loving children have decided that if I am in the living room they are going to go into my room and turn on the Xbox One and start playing games on it. They know that this is a major no in our house. Especially since Short Round decided to purchase a texture pack for Minecraft without permission recently. We now have supervised game time when mommy allows it. There are a few rules for this that we are going to be going by so they can get that supervised gaming time. And even then they are only going to be getting an hour of gaming.

The reason that I deviated from the post that I was actually working on is that my children decided to do just this. They realized that I did not hit the surge protector that all of my gaming equipment is connected to. So they decided that they were going to go into my room and turn on my system. Now when my children get quiet I try to assume that they are being perfect angels. However, when we are twenty minutes into quiet children I begin to investigate because sometimes they are watching something on tv and it's fine. However, when I know that I had my bedroom door open and it is now closed I know something is up.

Sure enough, tonight as I sit here watching Disney videos that the children had requested to watch I realized that they were extremely quiet. Or at least Short Round was. They have not been allowed on a game system since early May because of grades and plus preparing for the end of the school year. Games had been pretty limited also because of soccer also. We had managed to finally slow down and of course, that means that when we were really busy I will admit that things kind of fell on the back burner with the house. Laundry was still being done but not to the extent that I had been doing it. I was forgetting to start the dishwasher at night before bed and when I would go to unload it to reload it the next night only to discover that those dishes had not been washed. We were a very busy family last three months.

So Tempers, Tantrums, and Electronics... Obviously, the electronic that is being referenced in the title is the Xbox one that I own that sits in my bedroom. To find your children on it you get to be a little angry because they know better than to mess with the gaming system so that's the temper that is being referenced. The tantrums... oh my the tantrums are the ones that my kids throw when they are told to turn it off. These tantrums are the ones that usually take the cake during our day. We may have a few disagreements during the day but our worst tantrums are usually the ones involving electronics.

Now we are not the parents that have let our kids have electronics just to get them out of our hair. We have never been that type of parent. We prefer that they earn their electronic time rather than just oh we'll be really quiet and mom will never know. I mean I get busy doing things around the house. So if they disappear from my view while I'm doing dishes or laundry even sweeping and mopping I don't ever think about the fact that they are on the game system. I assume they may be in Doodlebug's bedroom watching tv. So when I am trying to get some things done around the house I never notice they have run off to my bedroom.

My temper mostly comes into play when they don't listen to me the first time I have said something. My children recently have been testing exactly how far they can push my buttons and I know that all children do it but there are just days that I just walk away and go outside. They have managed to push every button that I have that day and usually not listening when I tell them to turn off the Xbox is usually the final straw in the don't pick that up, go put that in your room, stop jumping on the furniture routine.

I know I cannot be the only mom who is going through this. I am trying to keep calm in this jungle that I am navigating with no guidelines. I had found the easiest way to keep them off of the system during the day is to like I said earlier hit the power supply on my power strip to basically 'unplug' things. If anyone else has any suggestions on what I can do to help with this I am more than open to them.

August Wrap

Let's just go ahead and jump right on into it. The One by Kiera Cass Book 3 of 5 Page: 323 Published: June 5, 2014 Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Synopsis: When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown - or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, Ameica realizes just how much she stands to lose - and how hard she' ll have to fight for the future she wants. My Opinion: So much happens in this book. Just so much. I wanted to hate America so much for a short time. I wanted to but no matter how much more I read I could not hate her I just could not. And after a little while one of my most hated characters throughout the trilogy I could not hate either. I just couldn't. I wanted to but the more the book went on and the more things happened I ended up loving my most hated character even more. By the time the book ende...

March Reads

I have been doing really well with reading however so as not to overwhelm myself we are sticking with the three book rule. Let's hope we really get somewhere with it again. So for March I want to read the following 3 books. Death Comes to Pemberly by P. D. James Synopsis: A rare meeting of literary genius: P. D. James, long among the most admired mystery writers of our time, draws the characters of Jane Austen’s beloved novel Pride and Prejudice into a tale of murder and emotional mayhem. It is 1803, six years since Elizabeth and Darcy embarked on their life together at Pemberley, Darcy’s magnificent estate. Their peaceful, orderly world seems almost unassailable. Elizabeth has found her footing as the chatelaine of the great house. They have two fine sons, Fitzwilliam and Charles. Elizabeth’s sister Jane and her husband, Bingley, live nearby; her father visits often; there is optimistic talk about the prospects of marriage for Darcy’s sister Georgiana. And preparations are under ...
