Spooky Reads Recommendations

So in my final installment this month of spooky reads we have these four amazing books. Sequels and novellas of books already on the recommendations list from the previous two post. I enjoyed all of these books. There were amazing reads and I would very much so read them again without even a second thought. These books couldn't have been better honestly.

The Asylum Novellas: The Scarlets/The Bone Artist/The Warden
by Madeleine Roux

Synopsis: Three teens are pushed to the edge of their sanity in these chilling novellas set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Asylum series, featuring terrifying found photographs and a sneak peek at a new prequel novel, Escape from Asylum.

Before Dan, Abby, and Jordan ever stepped foot inside the Brookline asylum, its legacy of terror stretched far and deep. Enter the twisted world of the New York Times bestselling Asylum series with these three spine-tingling novellas starring supporting characters from the novels, available in a print bind-up for the first time.

In The Scarlets, Cal is drawn into New Hampshire College’s twisted secret society—one with a deadly initiation.

In The Bone Artists, Oliver tries to make a little extra money for college by working for a seedy organization that traffics in human bones.

In The Warden, a young nurse starts a new job at the Brookline asylum, but soon becomes suspicious of its unorthodox procedures.…

Be careful where you go digging in history. Sometimes the past is better off buried.

This edition also includes a bonus sneak peek at Escape from Asylum, a prequel to the mind-bending novel that started it all.

Why I Picked This:

This book was amazing. The three different novellas were carefully written and twisted into an amazing tale. Well tales. The Scarlets was an amazing story and tells of a secret society on the campus that we first visit in the very first book. This was an amazing read and gives you a bit more background on the campus. The Bone Artist was one that was just really creepy and made my skin crawl. In a good way of course in only the way a book can do. Trafficking in bones is an interesting story to tell and one that you can't stop reading once you start. The Warden was an interesting read. It takes place before Asylum. One novella that had my skin crawling immediately. However, like I said in a good way like only a good book can.

Catacomb
by Madeleine Roux

Synopsis: Sometimes the past is better off buried.

Senior year is finally over. After all they’ve been through, Dan, Abby, and Jordan are excited to take one last road trip together, and they’re just not going to think about what will happen when the summer ends. But on their way to visit Jordan’s uncle in New Orleans, the three friends notice that a black muscle car appears to be following them. And Dan starts receiving phone messages from someone he didn’t expect to hear from again—someone who died last Halloween.

As the strange occurrences escalate, Dan is forced to accept that everything that has happened to him in the past year may not be a coincidence, but fate—a fate that ties Dan to a group called the Bone Artists, who have a sinister fascination with notorious killers of the past. Now, Dan’s only hope is that he will make it out of his senior trip alive.

In this third book in the New York Times bestselling Asylum series, found photographs help tell the story of three teens who exist on the line between past and present, genius and insanity.

Why I Picked This:

This book was the final book in the series. I was thrilled to get my hands on it when it came out. I will admit that it took me a bit to finally get to the book. Other books on the list and all that needed to be finished. This book was amazing. I do think that this was one of the slower starting books but it takes you to that place that just once you get there you can't put it down. Set in a city that I love New Orleans I loved the tale that was weaved.

The Queen of Zombie Hearts
by Gena Showalter

Synopsis: I thought I had nothing left to give.

I thought wrong.

They started the war.

Now I will end it.

Alice "Ali" Bell thinks the worst is behind her. She's ready to take the next step with boyfriend Cole Holland, the leader of the zombie slayers…until Anima Industries, the agency controlling the zombies, launches a sneak attack, killing four of her friends. It's then she realizes that humans can be more dangerous than monsters…and the worst has only begun.

As secrets that may tear Ali and Cole apart come to light, and more slayers are taken or killed, Ali will fight harder than ever to bring down Anima—even sacrificing her own life for those she loves.

Why I Picked This:

This book is the third book in the series. I was so torn apart by this book that I didn't know what I really wanted to think of it. It wasn't that it was a bad book. I enjoyed it greatly. This book pulled at heart strings and it was just one of those books that I couldn't put down. Once I started reading it I had to know what happened. It was to much to ask for this book not to be one that ripped my heart out but it did. As I have said with the others please go into this book with an open mind and do not judge it by the title. This is an amazing book.

A Mad Zombie Party
by Gena Showalter

Synopsis: The battle rages on.

Ali Bell and Cole Holland's crew of zombie slayers thought they'd won the war against Anima Industries, the evil company responsible for capturing and experimenting on zombies in an effort to discover the secret to immortality. In the last epic clash, the slayers lost many of their crew and closest friends. But Frosty, the ice man himself, has not recovered from one casualty in particular—the love of his life, Kat Parker.

On the path to self-annihilation, Frosty receives a message from beyond—Kat's spirit returns, insisting he partner with rogue slayer Camilla Marks. Frosty will do anything for Kat. Except that. Camilla is the one who betrayed them all, leading to Kat's death.

But when Anima rises from the grave to become a force the slayers may not have the strength to overcome, Frosty, Camilla and all the slayers will have to work together to survive. And one broken slayer will learn that sometimes, the line between hate and attraction is blurred...and the road to redemption isn't through revenge, but in letting go of the past and grabbing hold of the future.

Why I Picked This:

This book is the final book in the series and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. It took forever in my opinion for this book to come out but it was worth it in the end. I couldn't believe that this book was happening honestly. I thought after the third book that was it. There was nothing left to say with this book. However, this book there was so much more that could happen and it didn't let down. Remember to go into this book with an open mind and do not judge the book by the title.

August Wrap

Let's just go ahead and jump right on into it. The One by Kiera Cass Book 3 of 5 Page: 323 Published: June 5, 2014 Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Synopsis: When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown - or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, Ameica realizes just how much she stands to lose - and how hard she' ll have to fight for the future she wants. My Opinion: So much happens in this book. Just so much. I wanted to hate America so much for a short time. I wanted to but no matter how much more I read I could not hate her I just could not. And after a little while one of my most hated characters throughout the trilogy I could not hate either. I just couldn't. I wanted to but the more the book went on and the more things happened I ended up loving my most hated character even more. By the time the book ende...
