Synopsis: When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

My Overview:

This book has been on my TBR for what feels like a very long time now. I was happy that I was finally able to sit down and read it. I mean I had tried to sit down and read it a few times but I always had a hard time sticking to it and I think a lot of that had to do with the book copy. However, that is neither here nor there.

I enjoyed the book. Ruby was a child when this started and by the time that she was older she had learned to make her life easy. Her powers were frightening and exciting all at the same time. They terrified her and they should have. You watch her make several mistakes by the end of the book. I have not watched the movie yet but I am not going to have high hopes for it.

The book was fast paced once you got much further into the book. Truth be told I almost did not pick this back up but I found it on Kindle Unlimited to read and I jumped at it. ONce I had that copy there was no stopping me.

Baker's Corner-Herbed Crockpot Bread

Preparing to make this bread. Yes, you read that right! Herbed Crock Pot Bread. I probably thought the same thing that you are thinking right now. You can make bread in the crockpot?!? Where the heck has this been all my life! So I decided that I would try this recipe and I'll let a link to where I found the recipe at the bottom along with the recipe itself. I want to give credit where credit is due. So anyways I was pretty stoked to find a recipe that I could make bread in the crockpot. I want to go ahead and make note that all crockpots are different and not all of them cook at the same temperature. So while the times in this may work for you they did not work for me. The recipe is simple to do and fairly quick in the process if you have all of the ingredients on hand. I thought I had all the ingredients on hand only to discover I did not so a quick trip to the Dollar General was in order. Sadly they did not have the items I needed so I made a quick trip next door to ...

How Our Waitress at Mama Melrose Made Our Night Better

Photo found via Google A few years ago, 2016 to be exact, we took a trip to Disney World just the four of us. Usually, we have my parents with us when we go because the extra eyes on my two boys are always helpful because the little one still likes to bolt occasionally. However, this particular trip my parents were unable to travel down at the same time with us and my husband and I were really wanting to take the kids still. So we decided what the heck we'll take them by ourselves. They are our kids after all. So we packed up the car the night before leaving. Doodlebug had to go to school the next morning. It was his last day of school for the year for him at least. He had an awards ceremony that we were going to be in attendance too. He was so excited to be getting his little award for A-B honor roll. Anyways, let's fast-forward a bit into our trip. We were in Hollywood Studios we were sitting down to the Indiana Jones show with plenty of time to still spare to get to ou...
